Human Rights Violations: Police Brutality

The concept of policing has been prevalent since the times of the early nation-states. Of late, there has been a surge in the use of extra-jurisdictional powers by states or by the state-controlled police. This has been happening across the globe, making it a matter of grave concern. In a paradoxical sense, the state mechanism made to protect its people has been used as an instrument of oppression and/or violence. As a result, there are calls for radical reforms by a large body of activists and academics to defund the police and in turn construct an entirely new body for the society to function in.

Join the Human Rights Department at Queen Mary Pro Bono Society (QMPBS) as we seek to engage in this controversial discussion along with our expert panelists to help you gain an insight into this extremely relevant issue.
